The 'Transformers' hottie opted for a beach wedding, and looked ethereally beautiful in this elegant, flowing creation with a billowing veil. I particularly love that her feet are bare and she isn't wearing any jewelry. I'm not much of a beach wedding person, but if I were going to do it, I would definitel ywant something like what Megan did.
Katie Holmes
Her marriage to Tom Cruise may not have lasted (thankfully,) but she definitely got to take some beautiful wedding pictures. I love the off-the-shoulder design and the billowing veil. Rumor has it, though, that the bride wanted to wear heels, but the groom refused to let her, since he didn't want to be noticably shorter than Amazonian Kate. Maybe that should have been an indication of what was to come, Katie...
Natalie Portman
You know, there isn't much about this dress that I personally love. I mean, it's adorable, yes, and I think it's quirky and yet enchanting. But it's not something I would have picked. What I like, though, is that it fits Natalie's personality so well. It's modest, to fit Portman's Jewish heritage (and her Jewish ceremony,) and yet not dowdy. Also, it's reportedly made of vegan fabrics and her shoes are vegan as well, making sure that her clothing completely fit her personal lifestyle choices. She looks beautiful, and blissfully happy, and when your wedding expressly reflects your personality, you can't help but feel beautiful. Well done, Natalie. Keeping it personal is always the best!
Princess Diana
Even though it's considered a very testament of what was wrong with the 80s now (too big, too gaudy, too flashy, too much fabric, just generally TOO MUCH,) I will always find this gown enchanting. Di knew she wanted to look like the princess of the land, and man did she hit it on the head. And of course, the dress has launched a thousand duplicates, and weddings in that decade prominently featured poofy sleeves, absurdly long trains, lots of pearl beading, and enormous bouquets of flowers. But Diana did it first, and Diana did it best. Plus, the dress inspired one of the most iconic movie wedding gowns ever, when Amy Adams played her own version of a princess in Disney's 'Enchanted.'
Jennifer Lopez
J.Lo has had a passel of marriages (she just divorced her 3rd husband a few years ago, and from all accounts is courting another one.) Pictured above is her wedding to her second husband, whose name escapes me, because who the hell cares? But look how pretty she looks! I love the lace detailing on the gown. Lace goes a long way, and unlike Diana's look, it's just the right amount.
Jessica Simpson
Here's to another marriage that didn't work out- when Jessica wed Nick Lachey, she thought for sure this was true love. Their marriage rocketed them to stardom- their reality show "The Newlyweds" dominated the headlines and the ratings, and made them both household names. But of course, they inevitably divorced, but the one thing that continues to work is Jessica wedding gown. I LOVE the detailing and the sweetheart neckline, ad well as the A line style of the gown. It is modern without being trendy, and is romantic and beautiful, and is likely to be remembered much more fondly than her actual marriage.
Kim Kardashian
No list discussing celebrity marriages would be complete without mentioning Kim Kardashian, who threw an elaborate, million-dollar wedding and then called for a divorce a mere 72 days later. (The two are still married, apparently, so I guess it counts, at least while they get through the court battles, which have gone on CONSIDERABLY longer than the marriage itself.) But, she does look lovely, with her ballgown style dress, sparkling bodice and beautiful Armenian headband.
Shania Twain
On her second time around (her first husband had a highly publized affair) Shania went more casual, and more elegant. He rsimple beach wedding involved a strapless silk gown with a black sash, and a flowing, beautiful veil that I am SUPER envious of. The singer was radiant, and that's truly what makes a bride beautiful.
Reese Witherspoon
Another bride on her second trip down the aisle, Reese Witherspoon went for a different approach. Instead of being white, her gown was a lovelty shade of blush-pink, as was her veil, and the effect was charming. The wedding was a simple, Southern affair, and the bride was radiant as always. While I personally wouldn't do a pink gown, I can see the significance (and practicality) of not doing a white gown twice (or more) in a row. This was Reese's way of admitting to herself that she had matured, and that this was different, and she made a beautiful bride indeed.
The Duchess of Cambridge: Kate Middleton
Remember how I said in my last blog entry that I have a massive thing for Kate Middleton? Well, that's true here as well- the Princess looked EXTRAORDINARY on her wedding day, and much like her mother-in-law before her, Diana, Kate took a glamorous and yet personal approach to her big day. Modest and yet sexy, glamorous and yet minimal, traditional and yet modern, Kate Middleton's wedding gown became the defining gown for a generation, and will be one for the history books. *sigh*
